'I've never been up it before' said quite a few riders who only live 10 miles away.

So we've done it, and we did it not just once but four times.

First straight up from Dorking (outside the swimming baths) to the very summit, with the road junctions at Colharbour confusing more than a few.

Then back for two runs at the Broomehall Road climb which starts close to Ockley and is memorable for it's.... not so much it's gradient as it's corners.

I told them there are Z-bends with adverse cambers, daft parked cars just round one in particular.

It was Alex Wright who drew the short straw, he was entering a blind spot just as a wide 4x4 came up round it, taking most of the road. Next news he's in the ditch, well at least it was deep leaf mould.

'There's a screw missing,' said Nick Davy as he sorted things out... I think he was talking about the bike's pedal rather than the rider.

Finally the fourth climb was up Tanhouse Lane, as ever complete with running water, so like riding up a piece of roof guttering in a rainstorm..... it cleans the tyres mind.

I think it's Michelle Lariviere's favourite, so will have to do it next time as well.

Jamie Pullen had a puncture so Christian Bright stopped also (for some reason) (perhaps to protect him from vampire bats).... then later on Nick Gill had a puncture as we returned to Dorking.
