It felt like summer had really arrived inside the Furzefield Corral what with the blast-proof wooden stockage surrounding us on every side.

I still half-expect to find that we have a clash with a rodeo as a load of cowboys with a herd of cattle come thundering round the corner.

With it being so dry on the tarmac, David Burnham (coach) was keen to get everyone to try their hand at the skills circuit.

The results (excluding Albert aged four who was still building himself up) were:

age 4

49sec - Jess Kirk

age 5

55sec - Seb Gerrard

age 7

39sec - Emily Kirk
47sec - Stanley Loxton-Beed

age 8

38sec - Tate Pitchie-Cooper
39sec - Lukas Lamberth

age 9

36sec - Daniel Warhurst
39sec - Olivia Rookard

age 12

32sec - Matthew Burnham

Over the space of three runs, Seb managed to trim his times by 17 seconds while four others speeded up to the tune of nine seconds - they were Olivia, Stanley, Tate and Jess. Well done to you all.

While explorer (and coach) David was out on the Serengeti somewhere looking for waterholes with the older group, I was back on the black stuff with the younger group and we had a few rounds of musical chairs, though the first part of the exercise was to do a lap and get back to touching your original cone faster than whoever else's number was shouted out.

Then on to the Le Mans style racing where riders start without their bikes.... well they have to run towards them, mount them and start pedalling before getting up a head of speed.

Jess might have been only four but she was the most nimble at going through the process of switching from moving towards the bike on foot to being seated and pedalling..

Final race - five laps handicap for younger riders

1 Stanley Loxston-Beed
2 Jessica Kirk
3 Seb Gerrard

Final race - older riders

1 Daniel Warhurst
2 Olivia Rookard
3 Tate Pitchie-Cooper.

Sunday 26 April - monthly session at Cyclopark... times 10am to 12noon.

It's one of the Power Pack mornings.
